“Everyone thinks they can teach and everyone thinks they can do theatre.” Most people are not good at either. Good teaching is an art as much as a profession and requires imagination, a plethora of tools and resources skilfully employed, LOTS of dedication, patience and preparation, outstanding communication and interpersonal ability, and compassion, receptivity and awareness. The same is true for good acting.

We at Darakht fully understand the needs of modern Theatre Practice as well as the best methods of delivering effective training. We adopt a highly interactive style to ensure that all Individuals are active participants and ensure that every aspect of our training is relevant, realistic and practical.

Bin Bati Ke Deep

The play revolved around four characters, a poet, a writer, an army officer and the poet’s secretary. Shiv, the poet marries Vishakha, the writer, who is blind. The climax unfolds when Anand, Shiv’s friend, finds out that Shiv had been publishing Vishakha’s articles under his name and also has indulged in an affair with his secretary, Manju.

Baby Tum Nadan

Despite past salvation by Manu and Ira, humanity now faces threats from nuclear arms, cultural erosion, and economic slavery. Post-Cold War hopes faded as powerful nations dominate. ‘Baby Tum Naadaan’ is a modest effort to confront these global crises and inspire awareness.

Melbourne Talam

Melbourne Talam is an award-winning (Drama Victoria Award 2017) play from the Australian stage makes a debut in India. Melbourne Talam was nominated for the coveted Green Room Award 2018 in 5 categories including the best original Australian script. A racy play about displacement, immigration, and identity had 21 shows at MTC Southbank Theater and toured seven cities.

His Fifth Woman

"His Fifth Woman" is a play written by Vijay Tendulkar and is considered a prequel to his more famous play, Sakharam Binder. It explores themes of injustice and inequality suffered by women in relationships and also touches upon death and the afterlife. The play is set in Maharashtra, India.

Abhi Raat Baki Hai

This masterpiece is a provocative exploration into the destruction of the world of textile workers in Mumbai in the nineteen eighties. At the heart of the play is the Dhuri family which is caught up in the unholy bind of capitalist forces and corrupt political practices that lead to the criminalization of youth.

Pyar Kaise Hota Hai

Pyaar Kaise Hota Hai? written by Ramashankar Nishesh dives headfirst into this very puzzle! This story takes you on a rollercoaster ride through the wild, unpredictable, and oh-so-beautiful world of love—exploring its flavors, quirks, and the delicate dance that keeps romance alive.

Rashomon

The play is inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s award-winning movie, Rashomon, whose plot in turn was based on the philosophical tale called ‘In a Grove’ and ‘Rashomon’, by Ryūnosuke Akutagawa. Rashomon went on to become one of the greatest movies in Japan, as well as worldwide, and paved way for the coining of the term ‘Rashomon effect’.

Black Comedy

The play is written to be staged under a reversed lighting scheme: the play opens on a darkened stage. A few minutes into the show there is a short circuit, and the stage is illuminated to reveal the characters in a “blackout.” On the few occasions when matches, lighters, or torches are lit, the lights grow dimmer. The title of the play is a pun.

Baby

"Baby," a play by Vijay Tendulkar, explores the plight of a young woman forced into sexual servitude by a sadistic gangster. The play, often translated into Hindi, depicts a claustrophobic and violent situation where the woman is subjected to abuse. The play is considered a poignant portrayal of a woman's suffering and the power dynamics at play.

Nadi Pyasi Thi

Play talks about the orthodox mindset and how the circumstances, insecurity and possessiveness that leads to distraction of relationships and life .Play focuses on the issue that today women are no less than men and they also have equal rights.

The Great Raja Master Drama Company

The Great Raja Master Drama Company is about Raja Master who is 47 years old and a tailor Master by profession. However, Raja Master has noticed that off-late his tailoring shop is not doing too well and the clientele has dropped for various reasons. In a flash of inspiration, he decides that The Great Raja Master Tailor Company will now become The Great Raja Master Drama Company.

Saree

SAREE is a love story of a Poet (Jagdeesh) and a Girl (Malti). Jagdeesh is a very good poet but his financial condition is not good, he is struggling to publish his poetry in a magazine. Malti and Jagdish loves each other. Malti is a tailor who works for Seth Sahib, she has some desires and dreams. One day Seth sahab offers her wealth and luxury in exchange for her love.

Meet Lokesh Verma and Tariq Rahman Khan, the creative minds shaping Darakht Theatre Company into a hub for artistic excellence and meaningful storytelling

Lokesh Varma

An alumnus of Barry John Acting Studio, Lokesh transitioned from a career in staffing to the performing arts, collaborating with leading theatre groups in Delhi, including The Films and Theatre Society and Bamboo Stalks, as an actor and production manager. He has written, acted in, and directed theatrical productions, short films, and advertisements for major production houses. Passionate about theatre in education, he has worked with universities and NGOs to integrate dramatic arts into learning. Lokesh holds a degree from Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, Delhi University, and a postgraduate degree from Symbiosis University.

Tariq Rahman Khan

He has 10+ years of Experience exploring Dramatic Arts. He has served as a full-time Faculty member at Barry John Acting Studio and has been instrumental in driving various Film Workshops for leading Independent Film Makers and production Houses. He has hands-on experience in Writing, Direction, and acting in Theatrical Production, Short Films, and web Series. He is a graduate in Management and a diploma holder in Tourism.
